Your Growing Baby: Month Nine - All systems go
Though your baby isn't officially due until 40 weeks of pregnancy, she's considered "full term" after the 38th week. The lungs are mature and ready to function on their own. Your baby would have every chance of surviving even if she were born early this month.
- Movement may diminish, as space gets tighter than ever.
- Major development is finished, but the fetus continues to gain about a half pound per week.
- Skin matures, and lanugo (fine hair) covering baby's skin disappears.
- Position changes. If she hasn't already, baby will probably move into a head-down position sometime this month. She will continue to drop, resting lower in your abdomen, as she begins her descent into the birth canal.
By the time your growing baby is born, she will probably be 19 to 21 inches long and weigh 6 to 9 pounds.
