The typical hospital stay is 24 hours for a vaginal birth and between 48 to 72 hours for a cesarean birth. Your physician or midwife will determine the appropriate time for you to go home based on your medical needs.
Much of the essential care, support and education new families received in the past during longer hospital stays is now provided in our comprehensive maternity program that includes education and care during pregnancy, childbirth and the first year following your baby’s birth. The goal is for parents to feel comfortable, confident and prepared to take their baby home after a short hospital stay.
Evergreen families will return to the hospital two to four days after the birth for a follow-up appointment at our Postpartum Care Center. A nurse specialist will spend an informative hour assessing both mother and baby's well-being, provide help with breastfeeding and answer any questions about your baby's health and development.
Families can also get support from our Breastfeeding Center and weekly Parent-Baby classes. And Evergreen Healthline consulting nurses are available to answer your questions or concerns 24/7.
