Hospitalists, or “hospital doctors,” are physicians who care for patients while they are in the hospital. The hospitalists are available 24/7, meaning they are right there to order and receive test results, coordinate with specialists and make treatment decisions. They are also available to their patients at any time, eliminating the need to wait for a visit during morning or evening rounds.
The hospitalists keep the patient’s primary care provider informed of the patient’s condition, and provide a care plan for discharge that include any necessary follow-up care, home care, therapy or assistance from social services.
Evergreen’s adult hospitalists include specialists in neurology, pulmonology, critical care, trauma medicine and obstetrics/gynecology.
Evergreen’s pediatric hospitalists are provided by Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center.
