Get Physically Active
Few things are as good for you as consistent physical activity. While it can be hard to find the time, your goal should be at least 30 minutes of activity every day. More is even better, especially if weight loss is your goal – but any consistent amount is better than none.
Choose activities that you enjoy and can do regularly. After all, the best exercises are the ones that you’ll actually do! If you do best with a routine to follow, join an exercise class, swim or take a daily walk with friends. If you can’t find time for a regular workout, try taking the stairs instead of the elevator, taking a brisk walk during your lunch break, or taking a walk or a bike ride with your family.
Encourage your children to take part in organized sports, then walk around the sports field while they practice. If you can’t break free of the TV – then exercise while you watch! That guilty pleasure will feel so much better as you pedal an exercise bike or work an elliptical.
If you’ve been sedentary and want to begin physical activity, please consult with your health care provider about what type and amount of physical activity is right for you. This is especially important if you have a chronic health problem such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure.
Take the Great American Get Active Challenge and find ways for you and your family to get more active.
