PROFILE
The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides medical care for newborns requiring the highest level of care for survival, management of unexpected outcomes and care planning for anticipated newborn complications.
UNIT FOCUS
The NICU can accommodate newborns with related health issues as early as 26 weeks gestation as well as critical care infants.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
Family-focused, highly specialized intensive care for newborn infants who are premature or ill. Semi-private and single-room nursery suites provide a quiet environment for optimal healing, and feature leading-edge monitoring equipment and life-saving support systems. Parent education and participation is supported
TEAM MEMBERS
The NICU team is comprised of specialized RN staff and neonatologists, infant feeding specialists, clinical nurse manager and clinical nurse assistant manager. Neonatal services are provided in collaboration with Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center and the University of Washington Academic Medical Center.
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff scheduling provides around-the-clock patient care, seven days a week. In addition to regularly scheduled contracted nursing staff, neonatologists are available 24-hours a day for quick response to unexpected events.
STAFF ORIENTATION
Individualized training focus determined by the clinical nurse manager and assistant manager. New graduate nurses and new hires participate in a unit orientation program.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Successful completion of regularly scheduled skills labs is required. Patient care in-services are offered regularly.
