Evergreen Hospital Medical Center
PROFILE
The Family Maternity Center (FMC) features 36 beds in LDRP suites (Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum) with additional ‘swing’ rooms available as needed for maternity patients. FMC was a pioneer in single-room childbirth, and was the first U.S. hospital recognized as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by UNICEF and the World Health Organization for its success with breastfeeding.
UNIT FOCUS
The Family Maternity Center provides leading-edge medical care for birthing women, infants and their families.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
Family-centered care with one-on-one labor nursing, respect for patient birth plans and honoring the family’s wishes and traditions in welcoming their new baby.
TEAM MEMBERS
The FMC team is comprised of nursing staff, area coordinators and educators working collaboratively with a leadership team of clinical nurse managers, assistant managers and the director of Women’s and Children’s Services.
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff scheduling provides around-the-clock patient care, seven days a week. In addition to regularly scheduled contracted nursing staff, per diem and on-call staff provide support during high census.
STAFF ORIENTATION
Unit orientation is preceptor based and individualized as determined by the clinical nurse educator with staff input. New graduate nurses and new hires participate in a unit orientation program.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Successful completion of regularly scheduled skills labs is required. Participation in optional continuing education opportunities is strongly encouraged and supported.
