PROFILE
CCU/PCU is a 34 bed medical/cardiac intensive care/progressive care unit. Patients on the unit are primarily cardiac patients. Other adult patients may be admitted to this unit.
UNIT FOCUS
The focus of the unit is to provide unsurpassed, specialized and highly concentrated care to patients within an atmosphere of caring and safety for patients and their families.
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
The patient care delivery model is a patient-focused model, supported by primary nursing. Patient-focused care is high quality, personalized and comprehensive.
TEAM MEMBERS
The CCU/PCU team is comprised of the nursing staff, unit technicians and health unit coordinators. The clinical nurse manager, clinical nurse specialist and medical director support this team.
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff schedules are driven by the need to support patients seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
STAFF ORIENTATION
Unit orientation is preceptor based, individualized and determined collaboratively by the employee, preceptor, clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Numerous opportunities for learning and development are available. Hospital opportunities are offered regularly and staff is encouraged to attend. Unit-based activities include educational sessions and regularly scheduled skills labs. Various educational opportunities are also available outside of the hospital within the local area.
