KIRKLAND, WA – Andrea Phillips recently received the annual Health Unit Coordinator Excellence Award at Evergreen Healthcare for her outstanding work in Evergreen Hospice. The Snohomish resident was honored for her cheerful and caring attitude in the Hospice Center. She reorganized work stations to make the Center more efficient. Phillips comes into the Center each Sunday and makes breakfast for staff and families. Cooking is not in her job description but the meal has created a cohesive team and helps families get through difficult times as they say good bye to their loved ones.
Health unit coordinators are often described as the glue that holds the individual patient care departments together. The coordinators are the key staff person who knows where everything and everyone is, answers all questions while juggling telephone calls. Evergreen Healthcare honors the coordinators annually during National Health Unit Coordinator Week.
Phillips and her daughter, Sierra, live in Snohomish. She is a graduate of Everest College in Renton.
