Anger and stress are inescapable, but you can learn new ways to deal with them in a series of two separate classes presented by Evergreen Healthcare in March.
Life coach Caron MacLane is bringing her tips and tricks for dealing with stress and anger to Evergreen Healthcare during two class series. The first, Dealing with Anger, will begin on March 3 from 7-9 p.m. The second, Dealing with Stress, will begin on March 17 from 7 to 9 p.m.
The classes are aimed at people who want to change their approach to anger or stress. MacLane explains that anger is an emotion, while stress is something that people impose on themselves, so there are different ways to deal with the issues.
“It is my belief that anger is subdued in this culture and there is a taboo around talking about it,” MacLane said.
Dealing with Anger creates a safe place to discuss anger, delve into alternatives, and address the underlying causes of anger. Class participants will learn techniques that have been effective for other people.
“The first step is just saying ‘I would like to do anger differently,’” MacLane explained. “Then we look at the underlying trigger of the anger, for example parents get angry when their children misbehave. When you peel back the onion to often see the root of the anger is actually that parents are frustrated because they want to be good parents and appear to be good parents and their child’s behavior is not reflecting that.”
This is the first time MacLane will bring her Dealing with Stress class to Evergreen. MacLane attributes most stress to focusing too much on the past or the future.
“People are always saying ‘I should be doing this, or I should have done that,’ we’re always beating each other up, rather than seeing what really is and dealing with it,” she said.
Dealing with Stress participants will learn techniques to prioritize and allow themselves to live more in the moment according to their own lifestyles and personalities.
“Obviously mothers with small children are going to have a completely different set of strains than parents whose children are grown,” MacLane said.
Each two-part class is $20. Registration is required and can be completed through the Evergreen website, or by calling the Evergreen Healthline at 425.899.3000 Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
