Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of lymphatic fluid within the interstitial tissue spaces throughout the body. This build up of protein-enriched fluid can cause swelling throughout the body, most often in the arms and legs. Lymphedema is a chronic inflammatory condition, which will worsen if left untreated. Although there is no cure for lymphedema, the condition can be managed and controlled with proper treatment, especially if detected early.
Evergreen Physical Therapy provides a specialized lymphedema program to address the swelling and accumulation of lumph fluid that can occur following breast cancer. Evergreen therapists have received training in massage techniques, bandaging, exercises and specialized equipment to reduce the discomfort.
