PROFILE
Our 33 bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides comprehensive medical care for newborns requiring a high level of care in the, management of unexpected outcomes and care planning for anticipated newborn complications. The NICU can accommodate preterm infants with related health issues as early as 24 weeks gestation in addition to newborns with complex and chronic health issues. Many of our patients are referred to the NICU from our high risk parental center specializing in:
- Twin-to-Twin oblation treatment
- In-vitro fertilization
- Multiple Gestation
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
Family centered care is the focus in the NICU at Evergreen. Single-room nursery suites provide a quiet environment for optimal healing and development for the neonate. The suites feature state of the art monitoring equipment and life-saving support systems, such as:
- High Flow Nasal Cannual
- CPAP
- Conventional Ventilation
- High Frequency Oscillating Ventilation
- Inhaled Nitric Oxide
Parent education and participation is emphasized and encouraged.
TEAM MEMBERS
The NICU team is comprised of specialized RN staff and 24/7 in-house neonatologists. Other team members include:
- Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Dedicated NICU Lactation Consultants
- Physical Therapist
- Respiratory Therapist
- Social Services
- Pharmacist
- Dietician
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff scheduling provides 24/7 coverage with staff working 12 hour shifts.. In addition to regularly scheduled contracted nursing staff, neonatologists are available 24-hours a day for quick response to unexpected events.
STAFF ORIENTATION
New hires attend a comprehensive NICU unit orientation, as well as a general hospital orientation.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Educational opportunities are offered in the form of classes, in-services, on-line independent study and conferences. Staff also have opportunities to participate in unit based committees, such as clinical advisory board, protocol development and parent advisory board.
