The Pediatric Department provides health services for children, ages newborn through adolescence, with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions including:
- Respiratory
- Infection
- Feeding Problems
- Hyperbilirubinemia
- Diabetes
- General Surgery
PATIENT CARE DELIVERY MODEL
Single-room, family-centered care tailored to the unique physical and emotional needs of children and families. Features private suites with accommodations for parents. A pediatric play room is located on the unit.
TEAM MEMBERS
Pediatric nursing staff – specialty trained in pediatric nursing, and certified in PALS and NRP
Pediatric hospitalists – physicians from Seattle Children’s Hospital oversee care of pediatric patients, working closely and collaboratively with the child’s physician(s)
Other team members may include:
- Pediatricians and other Physicians from the community
- Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Lactation
- Occupational and Physical Therapist
- Respiratory Therapist
- Social Services
- Pharmacist
SCHEDULING PRACTICES
Staff scheduling provides 24/7 coverage with staff working 12 hour shifts.
STAFF ORIENTATION
New hires attend a comprehensive pediatric unit orientation, as well as a general hospital orientation.
EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Educational opportunities are offered in the form of classes, in-services, on-line independent study and conferences. Staff also have opportunities to participate in unit based committees, such as clinical advisory board, protocol development and parent advisory board.
