Evergreen’s Radiation Oncology Center offers leading edge cancer treatment in a relaxing, serene and supportive environment. During the course of cancer treatments, patients and their families may encounter multiple physicians, treatment centers and support staff. Evergreen’s program provides all the information and resources you need in one award-winning, comfortable setting. Specially trained staff coordinate each patient’s care and stay with that patient through treatment and follow-up.
The Evergreen Radiation Oncology Center utilizes a state-of-the-art multibeam linear accelerator for delivering the radiation and a dedicated CT-scanner linked to a specialized 3D treatment planning computer. This allows more accurate targeting of the tumor, while sparing nearby healthy tissues. The result is better treatment outcomes, with less toxicity.
Evergreen was also one of the first treatment facilities in the state to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). IMRT controls tumors by delivering high doses of radiation safely without damaging critical normal tissues.
The Center also features a private waiting area for patients, very much like a comfortable living room with a picture window looking out over a calming Japanese garden. This relaxing atmosphere encourages patients to talk and support each other.
Your care team includes:
- The radiation oncologist prescribes the type and amount of treatment that is right for you.
- The radiation physicist works closely with your doctor to plan your treatment and makes sure the machines deliver the right dose of radiation.
- The dosimetrist works with the radiation physicist to calculate the amount of radiation to be delivered to the cancer and normal tissues that are nearby.
- The radiation therapist positions you for your treatments and runs the equipment that delivers the radiation.
- The radiation nurse helps to coordinate your care, educates you about treatment and how to manage side effects.
- The oncology social worker helps link patients and family members to a number of resources that help with everything from insurance paperwork to transportation to local support groups.
